Anyone remember Josh Kayode?
Back in 2022 Liam Manning brought Josh Kayode to the club on loan from Rotherham United. Unfortunately he got injured before he had the chance to really make an impression on the fans.
Since then he has had a sporadic career consisting of several loans and played a bit part role for the miller’s this season.
His best goal return came in the 20/21 campaign on loan at Carlisle United, notching eight goals and contributing three assists from thirty four appearances.
Although these numbers are not particularly impressive, his YouTube scouting video is. In this highlights reel of the young Irish attacker it is clear to see that he is a powerful, direct and technically gifted player.
At twenty four years of age his best years are still ahead of him. Paul Warne has previously coached him during his spell as manager in Yorkshire and surely knows the potential is there. The only downside to Kayode is that he can be a bit injury prone. If he was to return the club would need to work very hard on conditioning him as best as possible.
It is important to remember that when it comes to signing a striker this summer, players with potential and room for development should be considered. Signing a forward who has just come off the back of a thirty goal season is somewhat unrealistic. Kayode has all the tools to fit into Warne’s playing style.
