End of season showdown
Despite there being nothing to play for in terms of promotion or relegation this seems far from a dead rubber tie. Swindon Town vs MK Dons pits two sides against each other who should be fighting it out at the sharp end of the table next season.
Paul Warne and Ian Holloway are probably two of the most out spoken managers in league two. Both gave quirky, humorous and heartfelt press conferences. But make no mistake about it, this game is likely to be fiercely competitive.
Swindon Town come into the fixture eleven points better off than the Dons and have won three, lost one and drawn one of their last five games. Warne has improved his side defensively but they have still only picked up one win, drawing two and losing two.
At the top end of the pitch Town certainly look more of a threat with the likes of Harry Smith and ex Don Kabongo Tshimanga to call upon.
Ultimately this could make the difference if the Buckinghamshire outfits defence do not hold firm. In Jack Sanders the men from MK1 seem to have found a centre half who relishes the physical battle and can hold his own.
I would expect Holloway’s side to come out of the traps quickly, making for an open game. Under Warne the players have shown a real desire to work for each other. They’ll need to show that togetherness to get anything from this one.
Big summers of change are ahead for both teams as they look to gear up for a promotion challenge next season.
